Tohane (Hopping Rabbit)

兎はね

This spot is the narrowest point in the Ryuokyo Valley. At only 4 meters across, it was named “Hopping Rabbit” since it’s so narrow that “a rabbit could leap across.” Tohane is in the uppermost reaches of the Seiryu section of the gorge, where the andesite rocks are in the lowest strata of the green tuff layer. The hardness of the rock prevented a wider field of erosion.
