Senjugahama Beach

千手ヶ浜

This popular hiking area features a 2-kilometer-long beach located on the west side of Lake Chuzenji, offering scenic views across the water to Mt. Nantai. The beach is surrounded by a forest of Quercus oak and Japanese elm trees that are over 200 years old. Near the beach stands Senju-do Hall, which was originally constructed by the priest Shodo Shonin in the eighth century and was rebuilt a few years ago. In mid-June, the area is adorned with pink blooms of Japanese primrose. Early risers can witness the spectacular sunrise over the tranquil surface of the lake. Depending on the time of year and weather conditions, they may also experience a diamond-like light effect over Mt. Nantai.

How to get there:
About 25 minutes by low-emission bus from Akanuma Nature Information Center. It is also accessible by boat, depending on the season.
