Experience the Nikkobori woodcarving tradition that originated with the famous craftsmen who renovated Nikko Toshogu Shrine. Common designs include cherry blossoms, peonies and dragons, carefully carved on furniture, trays and cups, then coated with lacquer.

Central Nikko

Ashio

Ashio is most famous for its copper mine, which flourished for over 400 years. Visitors can ride trolleys down the 700-meter long mining tunnel and get a feel for the mine as it once existed.
