Heike Village

平家の里

After the Genpei War (1180-1185), members of the defeated Heike (or Taira) clan fled, some apparently hiding in Yunishigawa Onsen. Today, the village is preserved as an open-air museum where you can learn more about the Heike and their way of life. Every June a festival is held, in which a procession in period costume walks two kilometers between Heike Village and Yudono-jinja Shrine.

How to get there:
30 minutes from Yunishigawa-Onsen Station on buses bound for Yunishigawa Onsen to the last stop.

When:
Open year-round.
